Autism Assessment Services

For Children, Young People and Adults

 Enhancing Understanding, Access and Support

At Aurora Psychology Ltd, we are now pleased to offer comprehensive, high-quality autism assessment services for children, young people and adults. Our approach combines clinical expertise using a highly trained multi-disciplinary team, evidence-based diagnostic methods following NHS and NICE guidelines, and a person-centred, compassionate process designed to support each individual and their family through every step of the journey.

What is an Autism Assessment?

An autism assessment is a detailed clinical process designed to explore whether an individual meets diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Autism can present differently across individuals and across the lifespan. Our aim is not only to determine diagnosis (where appropriate), but also to provide a meaningful understanding of strengths, differences, and support needs.

Assessments explore:

  • Social communication and interaction

  • Sensory processing and preferences

  • Behavioural patterns and routines

  • Developmental history

  • Emotional wellbeing and co‑occurring difficulties

We use gold‑standard assessment tools, including ADOS‑2 and ADI‑R, alongside clinical interviews, observations and collateral information.

Why Choose Aurora Psychology?

  • Experienced Clinicians: We are led by HCPC-registered clinical psychologists and autism-specialist practitioners with a strong grounding in evidence-based assessments and therapeutic formulation.

  • Gold-Standard: Our assessment process follows the gold-standard NHS and NICE guidelines.

  • Face-to-Face: We conduct our clinical diagnostic assessments face-to-face, rather than online. We also conduct school observations where necessary to help develop a detailed understanding of the individual's profile.

  • Individualised Process: Each assessment is tailored to the individual’s age, communication style, background and support needs.

  • Person-Centred and Respectful: We aim to create a supportive environment where individuals and families feel heard, informed and empowered.

  • Clear Detailed Reports & Practical Recommendations: Our reports offer actionable guidance to access support, build understanding and plan next steps.

Our Assessment Pathway

1

Initial Consultation
Pre-Assessment & Triage

A dedicated, specialist practitioner (who will support you throughout the diagnostic process) will talk with you (and where appropriate, your family or carers) to explore your reasons for assessment, gather background information and developmental history, and plan next steps. This initial meeting helps us understand your needs and explain the process clearly.

2

Screening & Pre-Assessment Questionnaires

We ask that appropriate questionnaires are completed prior to formal assessment. For children, this may include input from schools or educational settings. These tools help us determine whether a full diagnostic assessment is the best next step, and ask questions about traits and day-to-day functioning.

Packages 1 & 2 (see below) includes the pre-assessment consultation, triage and screening questionnaires, and a comprehensive report with the results and recommendations.

3

Diagnostic Assessment Sessions

A standarised clinical diagnostic interview (ADI-R) and face-to-face direct clinical assessment and clinical tools (ADOS-2) are completed, along with school observations where necessary.

These can take several hours in total so are spread over multiple meetings. We provide a flexible approach to ensure your child is able to a strong rapport with us, and feels safe and calm throughout.

4

Feedback & Written Report

We provide a feedback meeting to explain the assessment outcomes clearly and sensitively. An extremely detailed written report follows, including:

  • Diagnostic conclusions (if autism is identified)

  • A profile of strengths and challenges

  • Targeted recommendations for home, education, workplace or community support

Reports are designed to be shared with professionals — such as GPs, educational teams, and other services, including for EHCPs— to assist in coordinating ongoing support which we can also help with.

5

Multidisciplinary Team Meetings

At various points throughout our assessment pathway, our multidisciplinary team, which includes a clinical psychologist, a autism-specialist practitioner, and a specialist teacher, meet to discuss findings of the assessments, develop a clinical formulation, and consider co-morbidities such as ADHD, learning difficulties, and mental health problems.

Assessment Packages - Prices

We offer a range of autism assessment packages designed to meet different needs, stages, and circumstances, supporting individuals and families at various points in their journey.

Our pathways range from pre-assessment and screening options, which can help inform understanding and access to appropriate adjustments in school or the workplace, through to full multidisciplinary diagnostic assessments for children and adults.

Each package follows a structured, evidence-based process aligned with NHS and NICE guidance and is designed to be thorough, transparent and supportive. We take time to understand each person’s unique strengths, experiences and needs, and we guide you through every stage of the process, helping you decide which option feels most appropriate and manageable for you or your child.
